The Ventures 그룹(악단이라는 표현도 자주 쓰인다) 은 1959년 미국에서 탄생한
Instrumental Rock Group이다. 3대의 기타와 1대의 드럼이 만들어낸 수많은 노래들은
당시 전자 기타연주의 새로운 형식을 제시한 것으로 평가받고 있다. 40여년의 역사를 지녔고
세계적으로 올드 팝세대부터 지금까지 이 분야에 있어 No.1으로 꼽힌다.
1960년대 40여장의 앨범이 차트에 올랐고 그 중 17장이 Top 40를 기록할 만큼 대중적
인기도 모았다. 벤처스의 디스코그래피는 거의 1년에 3~4장씩 쏟아낸 것으로 기록되는데
내는 족족 차트에 올려보냈을 정도다. 미국 팝계에 새로운 숨결을 불어넣었던 벤처스의
대중적 인기도 70년대에 진입하면서 시들해졌지만
80년대까지 왕성한 월드투어를 계속하였고
특히 60년대 미국에 그랬던 것처럼 일본에는 70년대 와서 많은 영향을 끼쳤다.
우리나라에서도 두말할 나위 없었던 것으로 전해진다. 75년과 79년
내한공연을 가지기도 했던 벤처스. "Duane Eddy의 기타맨 트위스트와 함께
벤쳐스 악단의 샹하이 트위스트는 그당시
우리나라를 완전히 휩쓸었다 할정도이다..
사실 벤처스를 모른다 해도 우리는 언제나 벤처스의 음악을 듣고 살아왔다고 할 정도로
지금도 수많은 미디어에서 벤처스의 재능들을 사용하고 있다. 워낙에 주옥같은 명곡을
쏟아낸 그룹이라 '벤처스하면 이 곡!' 하기엔 망설임이 느껴질 정도지만
오늘날 2000년대 지금 들어도 마치 어제 녹음된 것 같은 생명력이 살아 있다.
